Physiotherapy

Initial Assessment

The initial assessment will include a detailed history, objective assessment, goal setting, initial treatment, and home exercises. Your initial appointment will be either 45 or 60 minutes.

Follow-Up Sessions

Subsequent Physiotherapy Treatment sessions may include manual therapy, soft tissue release, acupuncture, dry needling, and/or a home exercise. Follow-up appointments are typically 30 minutes.

Our Approach

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy (hands-on therapy) is an integral part of our practice. Our therapists use manual techniques to assess and effectively treat patients. always been a part of my practice.

Manual therapy techniques can diagnose and treat spinal and peripheral joint restrictions, soft tissue, and nervous tissue limitations to decrease pain and increase range of motion.

Some of these techniques may include joint mobilizations and manipulations, soft tissue massage, and nerve mobilizations.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific points in the body. Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins – the body’s natural pain-relieving neurohormones – through the insertion of needles into specific anatomical points (acupuncture points) to encourage natural healing. Therapeutic effects include:

  • Pain relief

  • Increased energy

  • Improved mood

  • Improved body function

Atraumatic acupuncture needles are rounded at the tip so that they slide smoothly through tissue and are unlikely to cause bleeding. Needles are left in place for 10 to 30 minutes during which time the practitioner may manipulate the needles in order to strengthen or reduce the flow of Qi.

At Integrative Physiotherapy we incorporate acupuncture with other treatment techniques or alone depending on what is appropriate for the patient.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment technique that involves the insertion of a very thin and flexible needle into a shortened muscle in order to help it relax, loosen and function better.

In most cases, multiple muscles have to be needled during a single treatment session. These painful muscles containing tight bands with tender ‘knots’ (known as trigger points) can feel ropey and are involved in many types of soft tissue pain.

The trigger points are specifically targeted with the needle to elicit a local twitch response during treatment. The local twitch response decreases the activity of the nerves supplying the muscle causing muscle relaxation locally and decreasing overall widespread pain and sensitivity.

The needle used is referred to as a ‘dry needle’ because no solution or medication is being injected

Pre/Post Operative Therapy

Rehabilitation both before and after your surgical procedures is absolutely key to a full recovery. We have seen great results in treating both pre & post-operative patients.

We will work with you to provide an individualized treatment plan with or without a surgical protocol to promote healing and a faster return to daily activities and full function.

Your treatment may include a combination of services which will be determined after an assessment has been provided.

Therapeutic Exercises

Therapeutic exercises or planned physical movements or activities are included in your treatment plan in order to reduce the risk of injury, optimize overall wellness and enhance fitness and well-being.

Women’s Health/ Pre-natal & Postpartum Care

As a mom of three young children, pelvic health dysfunction became very relevant to me after my first child 12 years ago.

My practice focuses on postpartum treatment including strengthening exercises for women with pelvic health dysfunction after babies. I incorporate mat and reformer Pilates into your sessions to help you return to your functional goals.

I will work with mamas that are 6 weeks postpartum and onwards as I believe we are always postpartum after having a baby, so it’s not too late to start.

“I couldn't be happier with Integrative Physiotherapy & Wellness. I started using their Physiotherapy services in January and since then I have utilized massage therapy, osteopathy, and now acupuncture. It is so nice to have all these services under one roof. The practitioners are all wonderful and super friendly!”
